Year-end Festivities: 27 Dec

Ladies and Brethren,

Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year to all and your family!

We have a wonderful year and before ending the year 2010, let us have another fellowship gathering.

You are all invited at 'Lodge Maniago' at Heritage Drive, Illawong, on Monday, 27 December 2010. We start at 5:00 PM onwards. Please bring your favourite dish and sweets [and drinks] to share or just be there and exchange jokes and laughter with us. I trust every one will have an enjoyable afternoon with our Freemason's Family. We hope to see as many brethren and ladies.

Kind Regards,

Remy and Manny Maniago

From the Worshipful Master

Brethren & Ladies,

My wife, Sis Pen and I wish to express our sincere thanks and appreciation once again for all the support and assistance you gave during our First Installation Ceremony.

Every accomplishment we achieve first starts as a dream. Our dream then becomes our goal. With diligence, effort, the support of others and belief in ourselves; our goals become a reality. We already started seeing the reality of our dreams. We started this lodge with pride and dignity and we shall keep it moving forward in the generations to come.

We need to foster growth by getting more new good members to continue what we started. People gets old everyday, some will move somewhere and others will be soon gone forever [as the natural order of things]. Like a seasonal plant that bear fruits, those fruits turned into seeds and sowed and grown again and again. Some fruits may turn into bad and unproductive state; while others have the best qualities to renegerate. The best quality will be kept and maintained forever and the unproductive ones will be soon out of sight. Some of the non-fruit bearing [unproductive] ones sometime will turn into something useable in the future: cut down to make use of the sturdy wood and made into lumber to support a structure [or die out to feed on other plants and support our environment].

We will continue to gain new members and to support our newer members we need to mentor them and look after them. We will guide them until they will have the full confidence to do what we are doing. I trust that we are all good leaders. We have the confidence, leadership skills and the utmost in our minds - Masonic service; thus when we serve ourselves we ultimatley serve others.

On behalf of my family; Sis Pen and myself  Wish You All an Enjoyable Festive Season and a Healthy and Happy New Year 2011!

VWBro Fidel Pamplona, AGDC
Wor Master, LJR 1045

LJR 1st installation: 13 Nov 2010

By RWBro Bruce Quirk, PJGW & Past Regional Grand Counselor, R-3 [reposted from District 32 website]

With large numbers expected, the members of Lodge Jose’ Rizal took great care in setting up the Festive Board at the Castle Hill Masonic Centre to achieve maximum capacity and their expectations were realized when all of the one hundred and sixty places set out were filled for the First Installation Ceremony and Banquet of Lodge Jose’ Rizal where VW Bro Emmanuel [Manny] Maniago was to Install VW Bro Fidencio [Fidel] Pamplona as Worshipful Master of this young and vibrant Lodge, Lodge Jose’ Rizal No 1045.

The members and their wives arrived early on the Saturday afternoon to complete the final touches of the festive board and organize the food and as the hour approached the Centre became a flurry of activity and excited chatter as more, more, and still more arrived to both witness, take part in, and enjoy the first Installation Ceremony of Lodge Jose’ Rizal.

The Lodge tyled at 6pm sharp and after the usual business was dispatched, all visitors were admitted including many large Faternals including a very large delegation from ‘The Cedars’ who have been keen supporters of Lodge Rose’ Rizal since it’s concept. As the Lodge was raised to the Third Degree, the Entered Apprentices and Fellow Crafts were respectively retired, many of which were members of Lodge Horizons and all were greeted and became acquainted with the RGC for Region Three, RW Bro Nigel Hamilton. At the same time, a large contingent of  Grand Lodge Officers were assembling under the care and direction of The Grand Director of Ceremonies, VW Bro Antoine Georges, who was assisted by VW Bro Peter Miller, Grand Steward. As seven o’clock approached and a photo opportunity taken, the Grand Lodge Delegation assembled and after an alarm was sounded and duly responded to, the Grand Lodge Delegation was led into the Lodge Room by The Grand Director VW Bro Georges, headed by MW Bro Raymond Barry Brooke PGM and all were warmly received by the Installing Master VW Bro Manny Maniago.

With the Grand Lodge Officers seated and made comfortable and notice papers distributed, the officers of the Lodge divested themselves of their insignia of office and all Master Masons were retired and the ceremony of Installation began, commencing with the second presentation of the Worshipful Master Elect, by his sponsors W Bro Jacinto 'Jack'  Sta Maria and W Bro Rolando 'Rolly' Manarang.

The ceremony that followed was a joy to watch and a pleasure to listen to as the age old ceremony of Installation unfolded and soon VW Bro Fidel Pamplona became The Worshipful Master of Lodge Jose’ Rizal No 1045 at Lodge Jose’ Rizal’s first Installation ceremony.

Before the Lodge was closed in the Third Degree, the usual announcements and proclamations were given in the South, the Herald on the night being W Bro Duncan Muir. The Third Working Tools were delivered by Bro Alfredo 'Fred' Sese and in resuming in the Second Degree, all fellow crafts were re admitted, an entered apprentice almost slipping by unnoticed but was quickly retired and after the usual announcements and proclamations given in the West the second Working Tools were presented by Bro Manuel 'Manny' Santos. The Lodge was closed in the second degree and the Lodge was resumed in the First Degree and all Masons were admitted and after the announcements and fanfare in the South the First Degree working tools were presented by Bro Israel 'Izzy'  de Guzman. A beautiful rendition of ‘What a Wonderful World’ was then sung by Bro Edward Banting which, on completion, drew loud acclamation from all in the Lodge Room. The presentation of the Warrant or Charter, the book of Constitutions and the By Laws as well as the codifications and decisions of the ritual committee was then presented before the new Worshipful Master of Lodge Jose’ Rizal invested his Officers for the ensuing year. The three closing addresses were then given, The Address to The Master delivered by Bro Micvi 'Mick' Fidel, the address to the Wardens, by Bro Antonio 'Tony' Saputil, and the address to the Brethren by W Bro Rolando 'Rolly' Manarang, and in closing the ceremony, a beautiful rendition of Amazing Grace was sung by Bro Daniel Vincent Placido. The Installing Master VW Bro Maniago then, with some reluctance, told the newly installed Master VW Bro Pamplona that the ceremony of Installation was complete and in handing him the keys of the Castle Hill Masonic Centre told him that Lodge Jose’ Rizal was now under his complete control.

VW Bro Pamplona immediately gave welcome to the Representative of The United Grand Lodge of New South Wales and the ACT and in response Most Worshipful Brother Raymond Barry Brooke related the long association he had had with both the Newly Installed Master and the Installing Master during his term as The Most Worshipful Grand Master, where they had traveled together all over the State to attend the wide and varied Lodge Functions including Lodge Dedications, Balls, the laying of Foundation Stones Installations and many more. MW Bro Brooke then asked the Grand Director to present Bros Mario Baylon Jnr. Jose’ Elizes, and Robert Maneze and duly presented them with their Master Mason’s Certificates [affiliation certificates]. Before retiring from the Lodge Room MW Bro Brooke gave an enlightening and inspiring address which motivated many of the Brethren present into trying harder to achieve greater. MW Bro Brooke then indicated his desire to retire and both he and the Grand Lodge Delegation left the Lodge Room to disrobe and to join the Ladies and were soon joined by the Brethren from the Lodge Room.

Somehow one hundred and sixty found a seat and sat down for the Installation Banquet in a Banquet hall that eighty was the recognized maximum number and soon all were enjoying beautiful food prepared with great care and expertise by the Ladies and in response to the toast to the United Grand Lodge of New South Wales and the ACT. MW Bro Brooke gave recognition to the vigor and success of Lodge Jose’ Rizal in it’s short term of existence and in wishing them well, complimented them on their twenty five percent increase in numbers. In proposing the toast to The Worshipful Master and his Officers, Wor Bro Rolando Manarang said how proud he was to be the one who initiated the Newly Re Installed Master some years ago and he wished them well. In closing, the Immediate Past Master, VWor Bro Manny Maniago recited these words of great wisdom --- ‘Learn from Yesterday, Live for to-day and Dream of Tomorrow’. In response to the toast to the Ladies and visitors proposed by W Bro Russell Dobson, and the Worshipful Master of Lodge Woronora, W Bro Luis 'Louie' Reyes wished the new officers well and thanked the Lodge and the ladies for a great night.

The hour was late when the Junior Warden's toast was given but no one cared as all had had shared a thoroughly enjoyable evening with a thriving Lodge that is really going forward, carried by good officers, supported by keen members and have the unceasing devotion of their Ladies, may it long continue and be an example for all Lodges to take heed.

[Moderator's note: As customary, the festivities & fellowship didn't end with the Junior Warden's Toast; only the formalities of the evening. The extended fellowship and 'house-keeping' continued on till the wee hours of the night.]

From The Worshipful Master [elect]: VWBro F Pamplona

VWBro Fidel Pamplona with Sis Pen.

Brethren,

Thank you for entrusting to me the leadership of this young and vibrant Lodge [in the District]. As your Worshipful Master, "Teamwork" and "Network" are my first two guiding words to run our Lodge. As I, may represent the Wisdom of this Lodge, our Officers are the Strength; but the most important part is your individual roles as model members - will represent the Beauty of this Lodge!

[Brethren], there are many who perhaps in our members are wondering 'Where and what is my role in the Lodge?' Their questions: 'How can I impart my knowledge for the improvement of the Lodge?' 'Can I participate during the Management Committee Meetings?' Should I wait to be asked?'

Brethren, our Lodge is run by its members; from the Wor Master to the Entered Apprentices. Every member must contribute for the improvement of our Lodge - positive [and constructive] comments, attending rehearsals, taking understudies and participating in social activities are all signs of good qualities needed in our Lodge. Your participation and attendance therefore is a hundred percent required and [that our Lodge will be] surely lead to a Lodge of Excellence and a source of pride for our culture.

Who should be the Executive Officers of a Lodge? Doubtless these should include; at the very least, the Wor Master, Senior and Junior Wardens, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership and masoniCare [Caring] Officers. These officers should be capable of dealing with most issues [associated with their offices] that require an immediate response without the necessity of waiting to be dealt with in the next Business or Regular meeting.

Our social activities will be structured to provide a sufficient and balanced variety of social events to satisfy all members. We will invite our partners to socials and obtain commitment that they will in fact attend.

We will therefore work together to bring out the best in each of us; and then we apply our skills to help others. We will work on the 'network' to meet people, find our future resources and make connections in the community.

From the Outgoing Worshipful Master

Above, our outgoing Wor Master: VWBro Manny Maniago, AGDC*, and always there to support him, Sis Remy.

Sis Remy and I wish to express our heartfelt thanks to the brethren and their ladies; who in one way or another contributed to the success of Lodge Jose Rizal activities. Likewise, I personally thank you my brethren for your trust in allowing me to serve you as your Foundation Worshipful Master. I am forever grateful for that privilege.

We have introduced innovations to our lodge's meetings and involved our ladies in the social functions of the lodge. We are a growing lodge and a progressive lodge; and it is my hope that we will maintain that enthusiasm. I would like to encourage each brother to continue evaluating improvements for our lodge and to continue to participate in our lodge, district and Grand Lodge activities.

I would like to welcome VWBro Fidel Pamplona, AGDC, as the new and first Worshipful Master-Elect of Lodge Jose Rizal. I trust that he will enjoy his term of office as much as I have. I hope you will extend to Bro Fidel and Sis Pen the same level of support as you have extended to me and Sis Remy during my term.

Brethren we look forward to the future - that of Lodge Jose Rizal as a Lodge of Excellence, a Family Lodge and a Lodge existing in Peace, Love and Harmony.

Again, my heartfelt thanks for the opportunity to serve you as your Foundation Worshipful Master.

Lodge Horizons' Bro Kristan Install: 23 Oct

Brethren and friends,

Next Saturday is Lodge Horizons Installation at the Sydney Masonic Centre and afterwards a really great dinner dance party.

The Installation starts at 3:30pm but the real gem is the dinner party afterwards - this is not the usual install south as it is designed to be a great night out for you and your wives, partners, friends and children, yes children are welcomed!! Many children are already booked in so no excuse for families not coming along; wives, friends and partners do not have to wait outside the Lodge as they can come afterwards and join us at 6:30pm for canapés and drinks and sit down dinner at 7pm [for a meal] or they can go shopping in the City.

A sensational band (Tall Pop Syndrome) will start with mellow music for the dinner and then crank it up for or a full on dance music will be entertaining us all. This is a great night out with great food and entertainment on a Saturday night in Sydney town. The cost is $55 for adults and $30 for children [this is a ticketed event.].This has to be the best value big night out in Sydney that I know.

All you single brethren here is your chance to bring along friends or girlfriends and impress them with your class! There will be many younger ladies there.

The guest Grand Lodge representative for the night is the Most Worshipful Brother Anthony Lauer, Past Grand Master and Past Police Commissioner of NSW plus many other guests and dignitaries.

Dress for the install is lounge suite with tie or your normal Lodge attire, whichever you wish. Our guest dress is Lounge Suite or smart cocktail wear. No jeans, sports shoes, thongs or causal wear. Children smart dress.

Lodge Horizons has been a great supporter of Lodge Woollahra as well as many other Lodges. Many of our members were founding members of  this young man's Lodge. Kris Regalado, our past Secretary is going into the chair and he needs our support!

"Her Son, Jose Rizal" Play: 17-20 June

Congratulations to Fine Artists Collaborations. The play was magnificent, entertaining and enriches our Filipino heritage. RJ Rosales [very talented son of our Bro Ross & Baby Rosales, Moderator.] as Dr Jose Rizal in the centre stage and Manny Diel as Rizal in the prison cell were both superb in their roles, same as Belen Mendoza in her role as Dona Teodora. If ever have another chance I would watch it again. I think there are four artists playing the role of Rizal's mother in the four sessions. The play lasts one and a half hour. Highly recommended . We thoroughly enjoyed the night.

Regards,

Bro Manny Maniago

BusinessWorld Weekender: Clash of the dogmas

BusinessWorld Weekender: Clash of the dogmas

"A history of acrimony: Rogelio L. de los Santos noted in Patriots, Masonry and the Filipino Religious Psyche (a research project of the National Historical Institute, 2006), mentions that while the Masons were looked upon favorably by the Church in the early days (requirements for admission even included confession, and profession of faith in the Holy Trinity), by the 17th and 18th centuries, "the religious character of the Masons would be subjected to doubt and criticism, owing to members who were influenced by the liberal and anti-clerical ideas of the Period of Rationalism and Secularism" (1600-1700 A.D.).

Reverend James Anderson, the minister of a Scottish Presbyterian Church in London, said to have been influenced by John Calvin, introduced the concept of God as "the Great Architect of the Universe" in Masonic teaching. In 1723, Mr. Anderson and John Desaguliers drew up the Masonic constitution and ritual; it kept the framework of the old operative Masonic guilds but alterations were made that removed the Catholic soul and spirit from these constitutions. The Craft was opened to Jews and other non-Catholic believers, further alienating the Church.

Past Grand Master Reynold S. Fajardo, explained Masonry’s appeal in The Brethren: Masons in the Struggle for Philippine Independence (published by Enrique L. Locsin and the GLP, 1998): "Masonry preached religious tolerance based on an irreducible minimum of belief in God and the immortality of the soul, personal and civic morality, liberty, equality and peace. It emphasized the ideals of brotherhood, freedom of conscience, tolerance, as well as the absence of class, caste, and race requirement as its standards of admission.""

3rd Meeting & Initiation: From a visitor's point

by RW Bro Bruce Quirk

Approaching ninety Brethren, their ladies, friends and ‘little helpers’ [three sons of W Bro Russell Dobson], were in attendance at the Castle Hill Masonic Centre for Lodge Jose Rizal’s third Regular meeting held on the eighth of May. This was a very special meeting as the two candidates were the sons of members [Lewis*] of this new and vibrant Lodge, Lodge Jose Rizal.

The Lodge tyled at six o’clock and the private business was soon dealt with and then the many visitors, some forming impressive fraternals were admitted. A successful ballot was then conducted for the admission of the two candidates, Mr Larry Pamplona and Mr Daniel Vincent Placido.

The Worshipful Master, W Bro Manny Maniago, then asked W Bro Fidel Pamplona to take ‘The Chair’ and thus gave him the privilege, which is every fathers' dream, to initiate his own son.

An alarm was sounded and the two candidates were admitted in due and ancient form under the care and direction of the Junior Deacon, Bro Manuel Placido, Mr Daniel Placido’s father. The ceremony that followed can only be described as ‘as good as it could possibly be’ and was a totally heart warming experience for all in the Lodge Room to be audience to, the Mode of Preparation and the Working Tools, delivered by Master Masons were explained with such expression and meaning it left all in the Lodge Room thinking ‘Just how good was that’. The candidates were then retired to restore themselves to their personal comfort and, after signing the register, were positioned in the North East corner where VW Bro Manny Maniago recited that lengthy charge, full of meaning, ‘The Final Charge’ which explains to the candidates what is expected of them now they are Masons and the duties contained there in, recited in a way that only VW Bro Maniago can.

The ceremony over and a full photo opportunity taken, W Bro Maniago resumed ‘The chair’ and finalized the meeting before all retired to the South [Festive Board#] to take part in what can only be described as an enormous banquet with an abundance of food catered for all tastes and the sweets were something the ‘Master Chefs’ could only dream about, that fruit salad ‘WOW’.

In response to the toast to ‘The Newly Initiated Brothers’, proposed by Bro Manny Placido, both candidates rose and responded in turn which bought cheers of recognition and acknowledgement from all in the room. The DGIW [District Grand Inspector of Workings] for District 35 VW Bro Bill McBey then gave each candidate a lapel badge in a ‘good will’ gesture and was gratefully received by each.

As the hour approached ten o’clock the Worshipful Master W Bro Manny Maniago rose and said ‘We begin early so we can finish early’ and with that the Junior Warden proposed the Junior Wardens Toast.

‘To our Next Happy Meeting at Jose Rizal.’

[As adapted from RW Bro Quirk's original article that appeared in the Masonic Regions website.]

This is history in the making for Lodge Jose Rizal 1045, as this were the first two candidates & initiates of the Lodge. What makes it more special is that both Bro Larry Pamplona & Bro Daniel Placido are both Lewis; sons of the current Senior Warden, W Bro Fidel Pamplona & Sis Pen Pamplona and current Junior Deacon, Bro Manny Placido and Sis Do Placido. respectively.

[* "Lewis is traditional English for a man who is the son, grandson, or direct male descendant of a Freemason. The term comes from the device traditionally used by operative masons, consisting of two wedge-shaped side pieces fit together by a straight centerpiece, to raise heavy blocks of stone into place; symbolizing the utility and strength of family heritage in building Masonic character."]

Both young men were highly recommended, & applied for the degree 'on their own freewill & accord' & talented in their own rights; the stuff that future & new generations of Freemasons are in this Lodge - young, vibrant & talented.

Another pillar of this Lodge are the ladies. Our brethren can't thank them enough for their support & help in making sure that the Festive Board & other social activities of the Lodge are graced by their presence. The atmosphere is akin to a family event, wherein everyone [even the children] are having a good time!

Another 'secret' is the extended & very informal South [which, "according to Masonic tradition, medieval European stonemasons would meet, eat, and shelter outside working hours in a Lodge on the southern side of a building site, where the sun warms the stones during the day. The social Festive Board #(or Social Board) part of the meeting is thus sometimes called the South. Early Lodges often met in a tavern or any other convenient fixed place with a private room." In fact, The Grand Lodge of England was founded in a tavern or pub called 'Goose & Gridiron'!].

Hence, an early toast of the Junior Warden so that brethren & other guests who wants to go home can do so after the formalities of the South. The brethren & ladies stayed till about 12:00 midnight having fellowship, dancing, and general clean up while polishing off the remainder of the drinks & food!

Reflections of a Traveller

Reflections on the Recent Past

My Dear Brothers,

I am enclosing this inspirational exhortation of our Worshipful Master, W Bro Russell Dobson.

The question is: "Do we really know each other that brotherly?" Let us discuss and suggest some more about how we should [and could] be close to each other in the spirit of brotherly love.

If you ask me where I gained my apprenticeship in Freemasonry, my reply is visiting Lodges not only inside but outside the District.

The Lodges of Instruction is another where we gain experience and make our mistakes. The Preceptor of the Lodge is always mindful of helping newcomers, welcoming and giving them roles in the Rituals. You may also ask questions, or you may practice your charges if you want. [This is where you are allowed to make mistakes.]

A new buzz is happening in the Windsor and Orchard Hill Masonic Centres.

The three Lodges at Windsor [Masonic Centre], i. e., Lodge Heritage, Lodge Seymour and Lodge Richard Coley are having a joint meeting. They will take turns in the Chair. What a wonderful idea!

At Orchard Hills [Masonic Centre], Lodge Emu Plains and Lodge Warragamba is having a friendly rivalry. They are trying to outdo each other in who has the bigger fraternals.

At Blacktown [Masonic Centre], we only have two Lodges, [Lodge Alpha being the other]. Lodge Blacktown-Kildare is being invigorated by more Degree work. That is great news. I believe we should visit them more often.

Last week at Lodge Seymour, I was surprised to see so many cars in the car park. The work of the evening was to pass two EAFs [Entered Apprentice Freemasons] from Lodge Blacktown-Kildare. The support given to their Apprentices was heart-warming. What filled the South was the two fraternals, and yes; from Lodge Emu Plain and Warragamba. I was the only visitor from [our] Lodge Alpha, but at least we were represented. Of course, I also represented Lodge Jose Rizal.

What about Lodge Jose Rizal 1045? It is the youngest Lodge in NSW and the ACT. If your weekdays are busy, do take time-out to visit this newest vibrant Lodge. It meets every 2nd Saturday of the odd month [beginning January] at the Castle Hills Masonic Centre, corner Northern and Showground roads. Tyling is at 7:00 pm, I think [Actually, tyling is at 6:00 pm, rehearshals at 7:00 pm, click here for more details]. The first meeting after Consecration is on March 13, a Saturday. I am certain, the Lodge room will be jam-packed. You will no doubt enjoy the South.

Freemasonry is a full-time activity. It may quite "infringe" in our busy schedule but it is definitely satisfying.

At bit of history. Just afer the 2nd World War, there were about 130,000 Freemasons [in Australia]. Today, we are 13,000.

Are we relevant with the times? If we are the most moral and virtuous Order, we are relevant always.

With fraternal zeal,

Fred Sese

[Bro Fred Sese and W Bro Russ Dodson are Foundation Members of Lodge Jose Rizal, both are from Lodge Alpha. W Bro Russ is the sitting Master of Lodge Alpha. While Bro Fred Sese is a perennial visitor [hence the Traveller] in various Lodges in the United Grand Lodge of NSW & ACT.]

Passions & Prejudices by VW Bro Robert K Taylor

"As Freemasons we are meant to be calm, courteous, rational seekers of the truth and all the while endeavouring to extend the circle of our friendships, nurturing old friendships, and making new. You will readily perceive that passions and prejudices are contrary to the gaining of new and the keeping of old friends. Why do we indulge ourselves in these undesirable traits when they are so obviously contrary to the teachings we receive and the need of our journey through life?

We are humans, and imperfect, even though we are striving for perfection. We have much difficulty in keeping that unruliest member of our body – the tongue – under control and say things that we later regret, but by then it is too late. As Omar Khayyam wrote, “The moving finger writes, and having writ, moves on nor all thy piety nor wit shall lure it back to cancel half a line, nor all thy tears wash out a word of it.”

So why do we indulge ourselves in these weaknesses when we know in our heart that we should not?"

My thanks to VW Bro Robert K Taylor for his kind permission to publish this article.

[Below was an article published in the District 32 website.]

"Countless hours of preparation and fine tuning went into the planning of the Consecration of Lodge Jose’ Rizal No 1045, long before the thirtieth of January 2010 arrived, and in anticipation of the huge numbers expected, which included The Most Worshipful Grand Master and ‘The Team,’ when the day finally arrived, the Castle Hill Masonic Centre was a hive of activity from early morning.

The foundation members were not disappointed, as long before the day arrived, tickets amounting to over two hundred and sixty were sold for the Banquet being held at the Castle Hill RSL Club. On the day Brethren began arriving at the Centre well before the scheduled tyling time of three P.M. and as the hour approached the centre was filled to full capacity. Somehow, over one hundred and seventy crammed into the Lodge Room including The Most Worshipful Grand Master, the Deputy and Assistant Grand Masters and in excess of Fifty Grand Lodge Officers and at three o’clock precisely, the ancient ceremony of Consecration got under way.

The Lodge Room was very colourful as the members of Jose Rizal had special shirts [Barong Tagalog or Tagalog shirt] made and imported from their homeland, very light blue in colour, with the Square and Compasses embossed in several places on the front, a photo of Joze Rizal himself embroided on the left breast which looked very symbolic, smart and dressy.

Gavels were presented to the Re Installing Master RW Bro Rey Porras by W Bro Greg Todio, the Worshipful Master of a sister Filipino-Masons [Lodge] Association in Victoria and a goodly number of brethren traveled up from our Southern State to both see the presentation and to witness the Consecration Ceremony, these brethren were both well received and recognized by the Installing Master.

The traditional age old ceremony of Consecration and the dispensing of corn, wine, oil and salt and the blessing with incense was soon completed and The Most Worshipful Grand Master declared Lodge Jose Rizal, a consecrated lodge, and duly placed the brand new Charter, bordered boldly in gold, in front of the Master’s pedestal.

The Lodge was then called from labour to refreshment and all retired for a welcome comfort break and a bite to eat before returning to the Lodge room where the Lodge was called back to labour and the ceremony of Re-Installation of VW Bro Emmanuel Maniago and the Investiture of the Foundation Members of Lodge Jose Rizal began, with RW Bro Rey Porras as Re Installing Master. The Investiture of officers was a colourful presentation as was said previously, all were wearing their especially made shirts which is the traditional formal Masonic dress  in the Philippines, and to further enhance the ceremony the addresses to the Worshipful Master and to the Brethren were expertly delivered by the Deputy and Assistant Grand Masters respectively.

In his address to the brethren the Most Worshipful Grand Master warmly congratulated the members of Jose Rizal and all who aided and assisted in making it such a successful day and went on to say there were many more Lodges planned for consecration in the months ahead, all then retired and made their way either by shuttle bus [courtesy of Castle Hill RSL Club] or their own means to the Castle Hill RSL Club where the ladies were waiting in the huge [Lyceum] auditorium and the Consecration & Installation banquet got under way.

Whilst eating and between toasts all were entertained by musicians and singers [Del & Bona] and in the latter part of the evening, all had their breath taken away by the lavish and patriotic costumes and dancing of the ladies of Jose Rizal members and as the evening continued, the Grand Master and Judith Morrice joined in with great enthusiasm, the dancing and the fun.

The book ‘Real Men Wear Aprons’ was on sale and both the Most Worshipful Grand Master, the Senior and Junior Grand Warden signed each copy purchased and all copies were sold. W Bro Russell Dobson, the Worshipful Master of Lodge Alpha proposed the visitors toast which was responded to by three visiting brethren, W Bro Bill Casley, W Bro Read and W Bro Cesar Solis from Victoria.

We applaud the foundation members and all those who aided, assisted and took part in some way in the Consecration and Re- Installion of Lodge Jose Rizal No 1045 which I am sure will quickly become a leading Lodge within our Fraternity and we wish them well."

Our special thanks to VW Bro David Keelty, District 32 District Grand Inspector of Workings.

District 32 Burns' Night: 3rd Feb

"Scotland’s national bard turned 250 last year and his native country has pulled out all the stops to celebrate. Burns, known as much for his sentimental lyrics (“My Love Is Like a Red, Red Rose,” “Auld Lang Syne,” etc.) as he is for his poetry, is so beloved that his birthday (Jan. 25) inspires elaborate feasts called Burns Suppers, featuring haggis, whisky and recitations of his poetry."

"The annual celebratory tribute to the life, works & spirit of the great Scottish poet, Robert Burns [1759-1796]. Celebrated on or about the Bard's birthday, January 25th, Burns Suppers range from stentoriously formal gatherings of aesthetes & scholars to uproariously informal rave-ups of drunkards & louts.

"Most Burns Suppers fall in the middle of this range, and adhere, more or less, to some sort of time honoured form which includes the eating of a traditional Scottish meal, the drinking of Scotch whisky, & the recitation of works by, about, and in the spirit of the Bard."

Lodge Burnside No 729 is hosting District 32's Burn's Night on Wednesday, 3rd February at the Castle Hill Masonic Centre [corner of Showground & Northern Roads, Castle Hill] after their Lodge Meeting [tyling at 6:00 PM]. Ladies are especially invited, dining fee is $15.00.

Piper is Bro Fraser Smith while WBro Alan Summers will give the Address to the Haggis and Tribute to Robert Burns.

Thank you & Kudos

Brethren,

Another milestone was marked in the history of Freemasonry in the United Grand Lodge of NSW and ACT, and that is the birth of Lodge Jose Rizal 1045.

Our Constitution & Consecration went smoothly and the Banquet Dinner was superb. Presentation of our performers were magnificent.

I would like to congratulate everyone in the planning committee, as well as all Foundation Members for a job well done. As I have said in my speech last night [30 Jan], I am humbled and at the same time share the excitement as we  continue to direct this fraternity in a positive direction. May the GAOTU grant us wisdom to achieve what we hope for in the formation of this lodge and as it continue to grow and prosper for many years to come.

There are too many people to thank, from the management group down to the banquet venue staff. Our hard work and dedication has paid off and the result was fantastic. Now the real job has begun and with several candidates on hand, exemplifications and other social committments, we must always be united and practice brotherly love, relief and truth. Thank you so much.

Together brethren,

Brethren,

The Consecration was excellent, even more was the Banquet.

Most brethren that I invited personally were impressed with the high number of Masons especially their partners.

According to WBro Michael Pajor from Woollahra, he hasn't seen anything like it for a long long time.

My fellow brothers from Horizons, Bro Steven Bright and Craig Shai-Hee added that it was the best South they have attended and both agreed that if all the lodges do the same, we will retain young masons.

I have attended a few Consecrations and Installations and I am impressed with the work and the hard work that everyone put in, especially in organizing the Banquet. Even during the banquet, WBro Rudy Romerosa [Foundation Junioe Warden] continue hover among the tables to check if everything is ok.

Thank you brethren and most of all, thank you to all the ladies who assisted and attended.

Fraternally,

Kristan F Regalado
